Up early today at 5:30, packed and having breakfast at 6:10am. It wasn’t very busy and we saw just a small number of people from our group – some were off for a 4 day stay in Hong Kong, while one couple were off to Nepal, Tibet and India for another month of travelling before going home to Australia.
Mathew and I got on the bus with a few other couples to get the same place from Beijing to London Heathrow. Everyone got through to the departure lounge just fine, after we had all bade farewell to Jane who had come with us to the airport to see us off, to make sure we checked in our luggage okay.
After a little wait and my purchase of some random Chinese nutty cookies / macaroons to use up our remaining Yuan, we boarded the plane and departed on time at 11:15 am Beijing time. This time I had a window seat, hooray!
It was hazy over Beijing but we managed to see part of the mountains before it clouded over. By the time the cloud had gone, we were flying over the Gobi desert and Mongolia, before seeing the Ural Mountains heading towards Europe and finally back home to Blighty where everything was SO GREEN and blooming. It was so nice to be back home!
