6:30pm
Today was a fairly uneventful day really. We packed our things and bade farewell to the blandness that was Kamloops and headed south, and then west towards Vancouver. I couldn’t believe we were on our way to the west coast already, despite feeling that our holiday was moving fairly slowly. It was already 20C at 9am, so we shut the windows and put on the AC as we watched the temperature go up to 30C and back down again. It settled to a VERY WARM 26C when we arrived in North Vancouver.
We travelled along Highway 1 driving through what looked very much like Arizona, VERY desert like, but often interrupted with the odd farm and large field of grass. No bears out here....well, not if they were sensible enough to stay in the shade at least! We tra
velled through yet more surreal landscape, as the deserts began to get hilly, growing into larger hills and a sudden change into green mountainous hills with the odd one being snow capped here and there. It was an odd mix of landscapes all in one go, and eventually we travelled along the Fraser Valley area, with winding roads along the Fraser Canyon – quite impressive, and very deep. We were looking at cliffs and trees which soon turned into a combination of desert and lush green fields again.

Eventually, we got back onto Highway 1 following our instructions to our next B&B called “Beckside Bed and Breakfast”, in North Vancouver. It had taken all day, almost a full tank of petrol and a 1 hour lunch break, but we arrived at 4:45pm in the right place with few problems. The place was fantastic – our room was large
, we had a deck outside with a table and chairs en suite. I felt very comfortable here so I unpacked quite a lot. The neighbourhood was very hilly, and a 15 minute drive away from the nearest town. Good job we had the car!It was still very warm, but we had tea and a slice of cake which our host had left in the room for us. I washed my hair, had a shower, and sat on the deck to write in my journal. The sun started making its descent and the temperature began to drop and became more comfortable with a gentle breeze which dried my hair in no time! The neighbourhood was full of trees, quiet with a few birds singing, lush forest close by, and the sound of a stream coming from the back of the house.
This was a good place to be.
