First off this morning we thought we would go walk a trail called “Valley of the Five Lakes”. It was MY idea, although Mathew said that he was thinking of doing this walk and he would have probably chosen to do it anyway, h
ad I not.
But, it turned out to be a stupid idea anyway – around 15 minutes into the walk we both realised that it wasn’t one for me. Distance wasn’t the problem – altitude was, yet again. So Mathew went on to look at the first lake while I went back to the car. We noticed at the beginning of the walk that there was no information about the ascent or descent of the walk which was quite unusual.

So, after that disaster, we rode along the Ice fields Parkway looking for wildlife again, but had little luck especially as the sun was out, yet again, so most animals were probably sleeping! Eventually we reached Sunwapta Falls, a cute small waterfall (well, most look smaller after you’ve seen Horseshoe Falls...!). We then got back into the car and had lunch at one of the many picnic tables there. Moving on, we stopped off a couple of places which were actual viewpoints, but on the other side of the road were some Mountain Goats – with long white shaggy coats, they were very nice with wise-looking faces! We saw some twice on the way back into Jasper.

We stopped again at Athabasca Falls – about 3 times the size of those at Sunwapta, and stayed there for around half an hour. We moved on via “The Old Highway” because wildlife is supposed to frequent the area...but did we see anything? Not a sausage! Oh well!
Although we realised the road took us up quite high as we rolled down the hill onto the main road back into Jasper. We stopped off for a photo of Pyramid Mountain before returning to Jasper, posting cards, buying Big Rock Brewery beer (well, Mathew did!), and walking ALL over town to find – successfully – sticky squares for my scrap booking – last night I ran out of them! So I bought 1000 squares. I get through them like nobody’s business in the absence of spray glue! I also bought some more paper for the scrapbook..........We spent the evening in, eating out own cooked salad (niiiiice chicken!) and chilling out.
